Raul Albiol, former captain of Villarreal and Napoli, shared his impressions of the Champions League match between the two teams which he witnessed with Sky Sport. The former defender, who played for both teams in two different eras, said he was "excited" and felt a strong affection for the clubs he represented. “I would like to see some time for both teams, some magic on both sides of the pitch,” he explained, adding that he hoped for a high-level show where the winner is the best.
Albiol then commented on the atmosphere of a Champions League match compared to a championship match. "The climate is different, the Champions League is a unique experience. Matches at this level are not easy: Napoli is a team of great quality and the environment is always very engaging," he said. He noted that in the last two or three years the two teams have shared a similar tactical approach, but with the arrival of the new coach at Napoli there has been a change that takes time to consolidate. “The results are still not optimal, but the game has improved and the team is still fighting,” he added.
Regarding Napoli's situation, Albiol highlighted the need for patience. “The new coach needs time, there are new players and some injuries that complicate the situation,” he explained. However, he stressed that the presence of high-level players makes tactical work easier. “With strong players it's easier, and Napoli have them,” he said, recognizing the experience of the new coach.
Finally, Albiol asked if the new coach will become the club's coach. "Hopefully, we'll see in the future. I've had many talented coaches and I think that if I take the best out of everyone, I could even win the coaches' Golden Ball," he joked. The commentator concluded that Napoli's future will depend on the new coach's ability to make the most of the resources available and consolidate the team in view of the next European challenges.
