Enzo Maresca, Manchester City manager, told Sky Sports that the team is focused exclusively on winning matches, leaving external controversies aside. The manager recalled the importance of the recent victory against Liverpool at Anfield, which gave new impetus to the English club. "The result gave us a lot of awareness. It was essential to win and doing so against Liverpool charged up the atmosphere," explained Maresca. “We know that the current situation around the club is a bit complicated, but we are calm because the club has reassured us and we only worry about what we can control, that is the matches.”
In the context of a turbulent season, Maresca stressed that Manchester City must focus on what they can control, avoiding being distracted by rumors and controversy. "There are many people who would like a ruling against the club, but we don't feel we are against the world. It wouldn't be right. There are people who see it differently. We can only focus on winning games," he added. The coach highlighted that external noise cannot influence the team if a positive result is not produced on the pitch.
Regarding the next match against Paris Saint‑Germain, Maresca expressed confidence in PSG's abilities, but reiterated that Manchester City must be perfect to beat them. "He is someone who always tries to evolve and improve. I believe that, like in that final, it takes the perfect match to beat them. They are the reigning European champions and winning the Champions League is difficult once, they have done it twice in a row and this shows their value," he said. The coach also underlined that the team must maintain concentration and not be distracted by external expectations.
Maresca also spoke about the role of Gianluigi Donnarumma, who played at Anfield on Sunday. “Gigio was always positive and happy when we talked about PSG, because he had a great experience,” he added. The coach reiterated that the team must maintain calm and trust in its players, focusing on performances on the pitch. Manchester City, with its solid defense and attacking creativity, is ready to challenge PSG in a match that promises to be decisive for the race for European titles.
