Bayern Munich’s head coach Vincent Kompany was discharged from hospital after a collapse during a second‑team training session last week, the club confirmed on Wednesday. The Belgian, who had missed media duties earlier in the week because of a viral infection, was taken to the hospital after suffering a meningeal irritation that caused him to faint. He was able to return to the dugout for the 2‑2 draw with Arsenal and later travelled to the sidelines for the 6‑1 German Cup win over Magdeburg.
Board member for sports Max Eberl told broadcaster ARD that Kompany’s condition had improved markedly and that he was now “doing well.” Eberl said the coach would rest and take medication before receiving medical clearance to resume duties. Assistant coach Aaron Danks echoed that there is no fixed timetable for Kompany’s return; the club will only bring him back when doctors deem him fit. Danks added that the team would continue to push forward while Kompany focuses on recovery.
The incident came after Kompany had already missed several responsibilities earlier in the week due to a viral infection. Despite the setback, Bayern’s players and staff remain committed to maintaining momentum as the Bundesliga leaders prepare to face title rivals Borussia Dortmund on Saturday. The club stressed that Kompany’s health is the top priority and that they will keep the coach in recovery mode until he is fully fit to rejoin the squad.
