Goalkeeper WladimiroFalcone confirmed, in an interview with TuttoSport, that his stay at Lecce has been decided and that the rumors of a possible move to Turin have not materialized. In 2024, after having renewed the contract with the Apulian team until 2029, Falcone asked for clarification on what happened the previous year, when the club had considered his figure for the Turin squad.
According to Falcone, Torino had shown interest during the 2023-24 season, but ultimately nothing was done. “Nothing has been done and this year there has been nothing: I think I'm not the goalkeeper suited to their style of play, but I don't even think they took me seriously into consideration,” explained the Italian captain. “That's fine, Lecce is my happiness,” he added, reiterating his loyalty to the club and to the fans who now consider it a true flag.
The goalkeeper also expressed a personal wish: "Yes, Roma. My passion for the Giallorossi is well known." However, he specified that his main objective remains to contribute to the success of Lecce, where he has already demonstrated his determination and commitment.
Falcone dedicated a special thought to coach EusebioDiFrancesco, with whom he started working last year. "He is very good. I already had him at Sampdoria in a short experience which however was not lucky for him. Then I found him here. He has had a lot of bad luck in his career. He came here to us last year and had to change his philosophy a bit, because as a team in my opinion we didn't have the means to present his game", he said. "So he adapted to us and in the end we managed to save ourselves on the last day. Jokingly I told him that he had to have me to be able to save himself", he concluded with a smile.
With the renewal of his contract, Falcone has consolidated his position within the squad and confirmed his desire to remain at Lecce until 2029. The club, which has just avoided relegation, can count on a captain who has proven to be a point of reference both on and off the pitch. Lecce's future now lies with the certainty of having a stable and motivated goalkeeper, ready to lead the team towards new goals in the coming seasons.
