The sporting director of Venezia, Filippo Antonelli, expressed his expectations towards the new coach Nicola and the club's desire to remain in Serie A before the match against Napoli. In an interview broadcast by DAZN, Antonelli reiterated the importance of defensive solidity and tactical balance, elements which, according to him, must become the basis of the team for the current season.
Antonelli began by recalling the decision to release coach Stefano Stroppa: "Stroppa's dismissal was a reasoned decision. We were satisfied with the team that had shown a good performance against Lazio and we thought that the break could allow us to continue on that path." However, after observing the results with Atalanta, the club decided to change course, focusing on Nicola as a figure capable of providing the stability it needs. “With Atalanta we saw some steps backwards and we took this decision,” he added.
The sporting director underlined that the team wants to "remain in this category" and that it will do "everything to do so". Antonelli also highlighted the importance of focusing on the next match, in which Venezia faces one of the strongest teams in Serie A. "The calendar is difficult, but now we are focused on Napoli," he declared, highlighting the need to give our all in every match.
In conclusion, Antonelli reiterated his confidence in Nicola's new management, underlining that the club is ready to take the necessary steps to consolidate its position in the top flight of Italian football. The next step will be to see how the team adapts to the new style of play and whether it can maintain the defensive solidity that the sporting director has so clearly called for.
