The Lazio coach, GennaroGattuso, opened today's press conference with a reflection on his career as a coach, underlining how the honesty of the criticisms received has not always been fully shared. Gattuso declared that, if he had had to listen to all the opinions that accompanied him throughout his 17-year career, the final result would have been "a quarter of what I achieved". For him, the truth is that not everyone has been sincere towards his work, but that hasn't stopped him: "I'm not a crybaby, only one team wins and then you have to see the work done in recent years".
The coach then expressed his passion for football, stating that the profession makes him feel more alive than in the past as a player. “I miss it when I'm at home for 2‑3 months, but I like doing this job because it gives me tingling in my stomach,” he said, adding that his experience has made him more aware of daily challenges. Gattuso recognized that, over time, he has become a different coach compared to 12 years ago: "I have more knowledge but there is always more to learn and improve". He also recalled the importance of staying up to date and constantly studying to find innovative solutions, as many colleagues invent new ideas every year.
Regarding the team's recent performance, Gattuso highlighted the need to avoid "meaningless one-metre passes" and to improve possession management. “We lost a lot of balls after the Monza goal, we need to occupy ourselves better both in the possession phase and in the non-possession phase,” he explained. The coach underlined that the problem is not physical, but more strategic: "you run much more chasing your opponents rather than staying on top of the references. You have to be good at understanding and occupying the field in the best way."
Gattuso closed the conference with an invitation to resilience: "there are negative moments and blows in the face. We must accept them and move forward". The coach reiterated that his mission is to guide Lazio towards concrete results, while recognizing that the path is full of challenges and the need for continuous adaptation. With the next match scheduled, fans will be able to see whether the proposed strategic changes will lead to a tangible improvement on the pitch.
