Roma concluded their eighth matchday of Serie A with a victory against Napoli, 3‑2, and coach Gian Piero Gasperini commented on the match during the press conference at Maradona. The coach underlined how the match against a high-level team was a real test for the Rossoneri team, confirming their ability to play and win against quality opponents.
In his interview, Gasperini reiterated that football is a game of risks and that without them success cannot be achieved. He highlighted that Roma managed the match with a winning mentality, especially when they had to face Napoli, considered one of the strongest opponents of the season. The coach also acknowledged that the team had moments of difficulty, particularly at the start of the second half when they conceded a goal, but they showed they could turn the situation around thanks to the creativity and determination of the players.
On a tactical level, Gasperini explained that he has adopted a slightly different arrangement compared to the last few matches, fielding three midfielders and playing Cristante, who had been absent for a month. He also mentioned the important role of Soulé, who had an extraordinary performance. The coach underlined that Roma had difficulty shooting and passing on some occasions, but still showed strength in the opponents' attacking areas.
The coach also spoke about the management of the counterattack, citing the use of Balerdi to exploit his speed against opponents. He explained that the team maintained good pressure on the Napoli players, managing to limit their counterattacks and build the comeback. Gasperini also highlighted the importance of the team's mental resistance, which was able not to fall apart after the goals conceded at the beginning of the second half.
Finally, Gasperini expressed confidence in Roma's future, underlining that the victory against Napoli confirms the solidity of the team and its ability to compete with the strongest teams. He also announced that Napoli will have to work to move up the table, but recognized that Roma are ready to continue playing with determination and aim for positive results in the next matches.
