Gaetano Castrovilli picked up the thread of his relationship with Fiorentina, explaining to Corriere dello Sport why, despite his release from the club, he would never have wanted to leave it. In his speech, the midfielder denied the theories that were circulating at the time, stating that the separation was "all the fault of the renewal" and that the decision was not motivated by economic issues. According to Castrovilli, the determining factor was the club's lack of trust: "For me the fundamental thing is to have someone who believes in me, and that's what I'm looking for now."
The player then said that he felt the need to change environment due to the numerous injuries suffered in Florence. "I wanted to stay, but after so many injuries I needed a change of scenery, I thought it would free my head. But it wasn't like that," he explained. Castrovilli added that, in addition to the non-renewal, there were "another thing with the club", but preferred not to go into details, underlining that, after five years, the club had given him a lot and that his main regret was not having been able to say goodbye to coach Franchi as he would have liked. "At my last match there were applause but also some boos. Because people didn't know the truth," he said.
Despite the end of his career in Viola, Castrovilli reiterated the strong bond he maintains with Fiorentina. “Even today I have a wonderful relationship with Biraghi and all my former teammates in Florence,” he declared. The midfielder also expressed his desire to find a new team where he can feel important again, stating: "Go back to having fun and entertaining." However, his ideal future still does not exclude the possibility of returning to Florence: "One night I dreamed that I was returning to Florence. I had number 10, I was captain. I liked it a lot as a dream."
With his release, Castrovilli is now looking for a new challenge, but keeps the door open towards a possible return to the Viola club. His professional journey, so far marked by moments of great value and physical difficulties, continues to be followed with interest by fans and journalists, who await his next move with curiosity.
