Girona coach Quique Álvarez has stressed the importance of consistency and winning away from home following the recovery of several key players and the increase in internal competition. With two wins and a draw in the season, the coach believes that the team is beginning to find a line of growth, but insists that there is still a lack of consistency to consolidate itself among the promotion contenders.
Álvarez recalled that the next match will be against Tenerife at the Heliodoro Rodríguez López and that, although the atmosphere at home is favorable, the objective is to achieve positive results in away matches. "It is always better to play at home, and even more so with the good atmosphere we have. But when you want to be at the top you have to be consistent and also win away," said the coach. Instead of looking too far down the table, he focused his speech on collective improvement and the need to maintain continuity to continue moving forward.
Regarding the squad, the coach confirmed that internationals Stuani and Jastin are progressing in their recoveries and that the team now has more players available after the departure of several players. “We are getting to the point of having an internal competition for wanting to play, and that gives me more possibilities to choose,” explained Álvarez. Among the names that stand out are Unai Hernández, who has been gaining pace after his arrival in the last minute market, and David López, who has proven to be a key piece in the reconstruction of the locker room thanks to his experience and leadership ability.
Regarding the next match with Tenerife, Álvarez avoided any excess of confidence despite the recent results of the Canary Islands team. He praised the work of coach Álvaro and warned about the defensive solidity of the rival, that "it is very difficult to win, they defend very well and know what they play and what they want to do." Girona will have to offer a good version to get the three points.
The return to Heliodoro will also evoke Girona's promotion to the First Division in 2022, a milestone that the coach recognizes as special for Gironism. However, he recalled that the present requires focusing on current objectives: returning to the First Division without losing sight of the demands of the Second Division. With more personnel, greater internal competition and a team that is beginning to show better sensations, Álvarez expects Girona to be increasingly dangerous and capable of sustaining its performance during the ninety minutes.
