Daniele DeRossi concluded the match between Genoa and Roma with a mixture of frustration and satisfaction. Despite the 1-0 defeat, the coach praised the attitude of his players and reiterated that the team is on the right path. In a press conference broadcast live on Sky, DeRossi underlined that the opponent's superiority was known from the beginning and that, while accepting the result, Genoa demonstrated that they did not want to give up.
The captain recalled the importance of maintaining pressure and closing spaces, elements which he tried to enforce in the second half too. “We played our game until Castro's masterpiece, which took some certainties away from us, but we remained on the pitch until the end,” he said, highlighting how the team continued to fight despite the opponent's goal. DeRossi also praised the willingness to "dirty" the game, an approach he already showed in a previous victory against Fiorentina, where the team tried to ruin Roma's rhythm.
The coach then spoke about the young players on the pitch, in particular Wiafe, who impressed with his physical strength and ability to play under pressure. “Let's not put too much expectation on him, but I really like this guy,” he added. As for Baldanzi, DeRossi explained that, due to an adductor problem, the player has been rested and that the team hopes that the situation is not serious.
Live on DAZN, DeRossi expressed his opinion on the second half, stating that they could have replicated the same aggression as the first. He also commented on the opponent's goal, calling it "a lob" and underlining how matches are often decided with extraordinary gestures. “We could have done better in some details,” he said, but reiterated his faith in the team and his willingness to continue playing aggressive, “masculine and dirty” while maintaining quality whenever possible.
The coach closed the conference on a note of optimism, stating that the team is improving and that, with the players available, it can offer higher quality matches. “We are recovering players like ElShaarawy, Traoré and Baldanzi, and with all the players available I am sure we will be able to play higher quality matches,” he declared. With the next home match against Venezia scheduled, DeRossi hopes to turn the lesson learned against Roma into a positive result for the next match.
