Genoa celebrated a 2-1 victory over Lecce at home, with player Walter Junior Messias expressing optimism but also frustration at the result. In an interview with DAZN, the game creator underlined the importance of the three points won, stating that "points away from home always weigh a lot" and that the team "could have done better". Messias also asked the fans to remain calm, recalling that "the championship is long" and that "we must keep tension high".
The match was decisive for the Serie A standings, as Lecce, who proved to be a difficult opponent, were beaten in a context in which the Genoa team showed a certain vulnerability. The player acknowledged that the team has "suffered" and suggested that the technical management should "close their eyes, choose" and that the club can "do something important". Messias also highlighted the need to improve the "captivity" of the group, indicating that the team needs to be more aggressive in the upcoming matches.
From a technical point of view, Genoa has undergone significant changes during the summer, with the "team having changed a lot" and the presence of new players who are trying to integrate. Messias commented that the team "had a difficult moment" but that now we can see an improvement. The player expressed confidence in the coach, stating that "the coach can close his eyes, choose" and that the club can "do something important". The result against Lecce was considered a step forward, but Messias reiterated that the team must continue to work to achieve more consistent results.
The Serie A context was further illustrated by the day's other news, including De Rossi's discussion of improving performances and statements from other players such as Di Francesco, who expressed frustration at the lack of goals from the attackers. Other comments, such as those from Alajbegovic and Spalletti, highlighted the importance of motivation and group cohesion. In this scenario, Genoa finds itself having to balance the need to improve its performance with the pressure of maintaining its position in the league table.
Looking to the future, Genoa will face a series of important challenges. The club must consolidate its position in the table, improve its aggression on the pitch and maintain the motivation of the players. Messias expressed confidence that the team can achieve important goals, but also asked fans to "go calmly" and support the team consistently. With the season still long, Genoa will have to continue to work hard to achieve the desired results and to demonstrate that they are a competitive club in Serie A.
