Sevilla FC, ranked sixth in La Liga, have shown keen interest in Danish midfielder Pierre-Emile Højbjerg, according to Spanish media Orgullo Biri. The Andalusian club plans to strengthen its midfield in January, drawing on the European experience of the 31-year-old, who has already played at Bayern Munich, Southampton and Tottenham.
Højbjerg, currently at Olympique de Marseille, is under contract until June 2028 and receives a gross salary of 500,000 euros per month. This high remuneration, as well as the cost of a possible transfer, represents a major obstacle for Sevillian leaders. Orgullo Biri indicates that Sevilla will first have to release financial resources, in particular through player sales, before being able to consider an offer. The amount of the transfer would also be a decisive factor in the negotiation.
In Marseille, Højbjerg’s situation is already the subject of discussions. The player would have expressed the wish to leave this winter, which would allow OM to reduce their payroll if an agreement is reached. The Marseille club must therefore find a solution satisfactory for all parties in order to make a possible departure a reality.
In summary, Sevilla's interest in Højbjerg is clear, but the financial question remains central. If the Andalusian club manages to mobilize the necessary funds, the transfer could materialize during the winter transfer window, thus offering Marseille an opportunity to readjust its squad.
