Matteo Darmian, who has just completed 20 days with Bologna, made his arrival in the rossoblù team official on 8 October. The former Inter defender, born in 1989, told how his new adventure arose unexpectedly, after receiving the call for a contract with Serie A.
According to Darmian, the proposal was the first time in his career that he was released from his contract without being given a choice. “It was a bit of an unexpected call,” he told the Sportmediaset program, adding that the summer was “a bit particular” but that his desire to continue playing led him to accept the offer. The player underlined that, despite the surprise, his decision was guided by the desire to stay on the pitch and not let the passage of time stop him.
After arriving, Darmian has already played three games for Bologna. He expressed gratitude for the welcome he received from his teammates, who immediately made him feel part of the group. “My teammates immediately made me feel part of the group, so it wasn't difficult to fit in,” he said, adding that he really missed the locker room.
On the topic of the summer retreat, the defender replied that, despite having had some thoughts about the possibility of stopping, he always tried to look on the positive side. “I always tried to see the positive side and I was convinced that an opportunity could come anyway,” he explained, adding that the summer was a time for reflection, but that now he is happy to be on the field.
With Bologna continuing to compete in Serie A, Darmian is preparing to contribute to the rossoblù defence, bringing with him the experience of a career that has spanned Inter and other top-level teams. The club and the fans are waiting to see how the defender will integrate into the team's long-term project.
