Beñat San José, coach of Rayo Vallecano, expressed his pride and emotion at the reaction of the club's fans after the tragic train accident that occurred in Urda, Toledo. The incident, which has claimed the lives of 69 people, left the Rayo community in a state of shock, but also in solidarity with those affected.
The accident took place last Tuesday, when a train went out of control in the town of Urda, a few kilometers from the train stop that was transporting Rayo Vallecano fans back from their match against Recreativo de Huelva. Approximately fifty fans, mostly members of the “Bukaneros” group, stopped at the scene and, without waiting for instructions, began to offer immediate help to the victims.
According to Beñat, the attitude of the followers was “a gesture that defends values” and that “says a lot about them.” In his press conference, the coach stated that, as a coach, he felt “very proud” of the group's response and that the emotion he felt was “quite a bit” to see the fans act quickly and compassionately in such a critical situation.
Rayo Vallecano, who had recently played in the first round of the Copa del Rey against Recreativo, were united in expressing their condolences. The coach offered his condolences to the families of the victims and wished the injured a speedy recovery, underlining the importance of solidarity in times of crisis.
The incident in Urda has sparked a national response, with authorities and aid organizations mobilized to assist those affected. Rayo Vallecano, for its part, will continue to support the families and the injured, while the club and its followers maintain hope that the community can overcome this painful episode.
