The project to build a new stadium for Napoli in East Naples is progressing, but before it can proceed, a meeting with the Municipality of Naples is necessary. According to the latest press release from IlMattino, the Kuwait Italia company is completing the reclamation operations of the land of the former refinery, while the club has identified approximately 25 hectares that could host the plant. The estimated sales price for the land is at least 20 million euros. The architect Zavanella, through the Gau Arena studio, presented the project to the Italian Q8 leaders at the beginning of October, but progress remains subject to the approval of the Municipality, which has not yet seen either the rendering or the model of the new stadium.
MP Aurelio DeLaurentiis met Gianluigi Aponte, founder of the MSC group, at the headquarters in Geneva, to illustrate how the new plant could transform the eastern area of the city. The meeting did not lead to immediate accelerations, but also touched on the issue of the Q8 sponsorship, currently expiring in 2029 and worth 18 million euros per year (54 million in total). Q8 and any partners consider institutional discussion a priority before proceeding further.
Mayor Gaetano Manfredi has expressed several times his willingness to encourage private investments in the area and has opened the possibility of a meeting with DeLaurentiis and Roberto Fico. However, so far the summit with the Municipality has not materialized. A step that is anything but formal, given that the construction of the new stadium would entail a profound transformation of East Naples, with the construction of car parks, sewage works, restaurants and hotels. At the same time, the 200 million euro plan for the works at the Maradona is progressing, without any particular hitches.
The exchange of documents between the legal offices of Napoli and the companies involved in the sale of the land intended for the new sports center is underway. In Qualiano, confidence is high regarding the possibility of opening the construction site by January. The next step will therefore be the meeting with the Municipality of Naples, which represents a crucial step for the realization of the project and for the urban transformation of the eastern area of the city.
