Tottenham Hotspur's Sweden representative forward Dejan Krzyzewski has returned to official competition for the first time in a year and a half after a long absence following right knee surgery in the spring of 2025. On March 20, 2024, he appeared for the first time in 526 days in Round 7 against Coventry, and on March 25, 2024, he briefly appeared on the pitch in the final stages of Round 8 against Chelsea. Speaking on the club's official channel ``Spurs Play'', he reflected in detail on the hardships and recovery process leading up to his return.
Krzyzewski said his post-surgery rehabilitation took longer than he expected, and he experienced days when he couldn't even walk up the stairs. He says he was torn between worrying about what he would do if things didn't work out and his determination to continue playing soccer. At the parade to celebrate the club's Europa League win, he revealed that the toughest moment was not even being able to walk to the toilet.
The turning point in my recovery was an encounter with a Swedish physical therapist. Therapists say they have changed his nervous system and transformed his sense of pain, and that the pain has subsided enough for him to tell his wife, ``I'm OK.'' Although he was still in pain, he regained control of his legs and began training seriously in the summer. He says his condition has improved little by little each day, and his limp has decreased.
The club was also impressed with Krzyzewski's recovery and praised him for becoming stronger in a short period of time. He was once told that he would never be able to play soccer, but he says that in just a few weeks, he was actually able to play well. Furthermore, Sweden's great senior Zlatan Ibrahimovic also recommended rehabilitation and supported his recovery.
Krzyzewski is currently working on his health and is determined to make a full recovery. He said, ``I'm not worried because I've been working hard for a year. I'm ready.'' He expressed confidence that his knees have also strengthened. He says he is now ready to take on a new challenge with the team, aiming to once again contribute as the center of Spurs' attack.
