Lazio thrived at the Mapei Stadium against Sassuolo, triumphing 6-2 in a match that saw eight goals, two penalties saved and Thorstvedt's dismissal in the 30th minute. The result was immediately decided by Taylor's goal, which opened the doors for the Biancocelesti. The black-green midfielder equalized with a shot from Thorstvedt, but Lazio's response came immediately: Isaksen and Floriani Mussolini canceled out the equalizer, while Thorstvedt's expulsion left Sassuolo at a numerical disadvantage. Esposito reduced the difference, but Zaccagni closed the door to 4-2 before the break.
In the second half, goalkeeper Turati demonstrated his class by saving two penalties, one against Zaccagni and the other against Frattesi. However, the Sassuolo team failed to recover the match, while Noslin scored a brace for Lazio, helping to consolidate the victory. The first goal came with a right-footed shot from the edge, while the second was a torpedo under the top corner. With this success, Lazio has reached 25 points, returning to the solitary top of the table, awaiting the next match against Inter.
Coach Aquilani expressed remorse for Sassuolo's performance, stating that the team must apologize to the fans and that they made a bad impression. He underlined the need for greater proactivity and a clearer perception of danger, highlighting that the team "gave away" goals and that the numbers indicate a lack of defensive discipline. He also asked for an in-depth analysis of the match, recognizing that the team must improve training and management of dangerous situations.
President Gattuso, however, celebrated the position at the top, underlining that the team must continue to work seriously and respect its opponents. He reiterated the importance of maintaining energy and motivation, recalling that the team has already demonstrated that it can work with the new proposals. He also mentioned the defeat against Mantova in the Italian Cup as a "blow", but said that team work was key to regaining confidence.
With the victory, Lazio positions itself at the top of the table, with 25 points, and awaits the next match against Inter, which will determine whether the team can maintain the top position or whether it will have to reevaluate its strategy for the final phase of the season.
