Matias Siltanen, the young 19-year-old Finnish director, was at the center of a transfer operation that saw Juventus interested in bringing him into their Next Gen. The proposal, put forward by Damien Comolli, was to include the talented midfielder in the youth group of the Roman club, but the agreement did not materialize and Siltanen remained at Djurgården in Stockholm.
Siltanen's journey began in Kuopio, where he took his first steps in the youth sector of KuPS. At fifteen he had already made his debut with the B team and, in January 2023, he signed his first professional contract. In 2024 he played 27 games, 24 starts, scoring one goal and contributing to the conquest of the Finnish championship and the cup. His performance earned him the title of best young player of the tournament and inclusion in the list of the 60 most promising talents of 2007 published by the Guardian.
Djurgården, led by coach Jani Honkavaara, purchased Siltanen on 29 January 2025 for a fee of one million two hundred thousand euros. The choice was also influenced by the presence of Honkavaara, who had already worked with the player at KuPS. The Swedish club, under the sporting direction of Maximilian Hahn, has aimed to build a quality central department. Hahn, West Ham's former head of scouting and with experience at German clubs such as Dynamo Dresden, Darmstadt and Werder Bremen, has introduced a youth development strategy which has seen Djurgården climb up the table, currently second with just six points behind Sirius after 25 matchdays.
Siltanen is a complete playmaker, skilled in game management, distribution and free kicks. With a height of 1.75 m and an athletic physique, the player is inspired by figures such as Toni Kroos and Rodri. At Djurgården, he wears the number 20 shirt and has already contributed with two assists in twenty-five games, maintaining an average rating of 6.35. His contract, which expires on December 31, 2027, makes him a long-term investment for the club.
Siltanen's future looks promising: in addition to the support of Djurgården, he has already attracted the attention of clubs such as Fulham, Benfica and Besiktas. With his constant growth and the support of an agency like B360 Sports, the Finnish director is destined to become a key figure both nationally and internationally. The next step will be his participation in the next Allsvenskan matches, where he will be able to further demonstrate his value and consolidate his position among young European talents.
