Udinese coach Gianluca Nani told DAZN that, after the goalless match against Parma, the coach did not intend to create controversy but asked for clarity on the penalty incidents. Nani recalled that the team had arrived at the match with six consecutive defeats and that the draw represented an important point to resume the race.
The focus of his interview was the episode in which the referee awarded a penalty to Davide Davis. Nani explained that, in his view, the action was "clear" and therefore deserved the score. He then mentioned another episode, that of Ekkelenkamp, which also seemed like a penalty for Udinese. “We don't want to cause controversy, but it's always nice when there is clarity and unity of views,” he said, underlining the importance of transparent communication between the teams and the refereeing.
Nani also referred to the decision not to give a red card to Zaniolo, who could have been penalised. According to the coach, the referee's choice was the result of common sense, since Zaniolo's shirt had been "attacked" for some time. The episode raised questions, but Nani reiterated that the main objective is to obtain clear answers for the continuation of the championship.
The coach also cited the opinion of an expert, Marelli, who confirmed the penalty nature of Davis' action. “If an expert like Marelli says it's a penalty kick, it gratifies me from a certain point of view,” said Nani, highlighting the need for clear guidelines to avoid future misunderstandings.
With the point gained, Udinese now finds itself in a more stable position in the league table. The club hopes that calls for clarity will be heard and that arbitrary decisions will be more consistent in future matches, in order to ensure a fair and transparent playing environment.
