Roberto Fernández, RCD Espanyol forward, confirmed that he will continue to maintain his style of play and his attitude despite the revaluation of his termination clause, which went from 25 to 30 million euros after his debut with the senior Spanish national team. In an interview with MD, the player explained that neither he nor his agents have put any pressure on his valuation, leaving the final decision in the hands of the club.
On July 3, 2002, born in Puente Genil, Fernández fulfilled the dream of his career by appearing in the senior eleven. During the preparation phase for the World Cup, the player described the experience as “very positive”: “I felt very happy to have learned things with the group and the staff,” he added. When asked if he had felt any pressure from the coaches, he humorously responded that he had not escaped the “hazing” of the captains, climbing onto the chair and singing in front of everyone.
Regarding his future, Fernández indicated that his immediate objective is to continue contributing to Espanyol in European competitions and, at the same time, maintain his presence in the national team. “What I have to do is continue doing what I have been doing,” he said. When asked about the possibility of signings in the Premier League or the Bundesliga, the striker reiterated that any offer will be decided at the club and that he does not want to be “soaked” in praise or criticism on social networks. “I am going to continue being the same and working,” he concluded.
The player also reflected on his performance last season, when he was the team's top scorer and assist scorer with seven goals and four assists. Although some considered that the club was unfair to him, Fernández maintained that mental work is as important as physical work. “Headwork is essential,” he explained. Regarding his room for improvement, he pointed out that he needs to receive the ball more and not focus so much on the center backs.
Finally, the forward commented on the possibility of signings in England or Germany, but emphasized that the decision falls on Espanyol. "I don't want to worry about offers; the club decides," he said. With the next matchday against Atlético de Madrid, Fernández expressed his desire to win and continue contributing to the team, highlighting the importance of discipline and preparation to face one of the best teams in LaLiga.
