Paris Saint‑Germain returned to the top of Ligue1 after a 2–0 victory over Olympique Lyonnais at the Parc des Princes, but coach LuisEnrique admitted his side have suffered and are not yet at their best. The match, which turned in favor of the Parisians thanks to a better controlled second half, allowed the club to consolidate its leading position despite difficulties at the start of the season.
OL showed solid organization and tried to take advantage of several transitions to threaten the Parisian attack. LuisEnrique admitted that his team “sometimes suffered” and highlighted the quality of Lyon’s defense, particularly in the first half. However, he insisted on his players' ability to maintain a high tempo and said the Parisians had created enough scoring chances to deserve the victory.
After a recent success against FC Barcelona in the Champions League, PSG did not display the same fluidity. The coach explained that Lyon's drop in speed after the break and the contribution of the Parisian bench gradually turned the match around. He added that he doesn't want the team to be at 100% at the moment, but that he wants to reach that level around April, when the big matches will be played.
The result allows PSG to remain in first place, but the club remains aware that it is not yet at its peak. LuisEnrique expressed his enthusiasm for his team to be first despite the difficulties encountered at the start of the season, and underlined the quality and ambition of the group. He also recalled that the margin for improvement remains significant, even if the club already has the necessary resources to make the difference in decisive moments.
For Lyon, the setback led to a fall to fifth place. Les Gones will regret not having better exploited their rare counter-attacking opportunities, despite a victory in Paris last April. Their defensive discipline upset PSG for a long time, but their limitations and the lack of solutions at the end of the match ended up weighing on them. The club will need to focus on improving their late-match performances to remain competitive in the title race.
