Meanwhile, the Brazilian Richarlison is back on the pitch, but not with the Tottenham first team. After a long back and forth with coach Roberto DeZerbi, the goalkeeper decided to leave the Spurs alone, and the coach deemed it necessary not to continue asking for his presence. As a result Richarlison was left out of the official squad and was not included in the Premier League squad.
However, the player had the opportunity to show his quality again with the club's Under-21 team. In the match against Cheltenham, played as part of the EFL Trophy, he scored the goal that brought Spurs to a 1-1 draw. Later, during the final lottery, he kicked one of the penalties that allowed Tottenham to advance, although the team was eliminated with 7‑6. Richarlison's goal had been missing since May, when his last point on the pitch was scored.
Despite his performance, the Brazilian was not called up for the EFL Cup match against Charlton on 26 August. In a statement in September, DeZerbi explained that Richarlison had already expressed his desire to leave at the start of the pre-season; for this reason the club bought another striker and decided to only keep players with the right motivation to stay in the team.
Richarlison's contract expires at the end of the season, and it is currently unclear whether he will be able to find a new club by January. The player's future therefore remains uncertain, but his recent participation with the Under-21s shows that he is still ready to compete at a high level. The next phase of his career will depend on the decisions he and the interested clubs make.
