Sassuolo had to interrupt their match against Milan due to an injury to defender Fedde Leysen, who left the pitch after just 26 minutes of play. The player, already recovering after an intervention by Pulisic, was accompanied by the medical staff and was unable to continue the match. Coach Alberto Aquilani expressed his concern during the press conference, underlining that "we are not confident about the dynamics of the injury" and hoping that it is not a serious injury, since Leysen was in full shape and on the launch pad to reach important levels.
Leysen's injury comes at a crucial time for Sassuolo, who are looking to consolidate their position in Serie A. The defender has been a key element in the club's defence, contributing his experience and ability to read the game. His absence could be a serious blow for the team, which will have to find a suitable replacement quickly. Aquilani also reiterated the importance of remaining calm and not being overwhelmed by the situation, inviting the players to focus on the next matches.
Meanwhile, Sassuolo have already shown they can withstand adversity, as demonstrated by their recent win against Milan. The manager praised the team's "excellent reaction" and highlighted the players' maturity, asking to review the goal disallowed in that match. Furthermore, Aquilani spoke about the qualities of Cisse and Amorim, underlining the trust he has in them and their ability to contribute to the club's success.
Regarding Leysen's situation, the club is closely monitoring his condition and has requested a more in-depth assessment from the medical team. If the injury proves more serious, the club will have to consider the possibility of surgery or a longer recovery period. In any case, the main objective remains to guarantee maximum safety and well-being of the player, avoiding forcing him to return to the pitch before being fully recovered.
Sassuolo will therefore have to face next week with a slightly weakened defensive unit. The club has already started to evaluate the options available to fill Leysen's position, both within the squad and through possible transfers. Meanwhile, Aquilani asked the group to maintain focus and continue fighting for results, highlighting that the team is ready to face the challenges that the season will bring.
