Juve Stabia finds itself in a delicate situation: the five million euro investment intended for the renovation of the Romeo Menti stadium risks being cancelled. The decision was made in the context of the Three-Year Public Works Plan approved by the Municipality of Castellammare di Stabia and supervised by the prefect Dario Caputo. According to the document, the priority of the intervention has been reduced from "maximum" to "minimum", jeopardizing the regional funding provided for the modernization of the stadium.
The change of course was the subject of a strong reaction from the Democrats and Progressives of Castellammare di Stabia. In a joint note, the two parties expressed their concern about the possible loss of the funds and called for immediate intervention to safeguard the investment. According to the press release, the stadium is not only the stage for Juve Stabia matches, but a real heritage of the city, a place of collective identity that bears the name of Castellammare at a national level every week. The redevelopment project included, among other things, the elimination of architectural barriers, the improvement of safety, visibility and efficiency of the spaces, with the aim of transforming the stadium into a modern, safe and accessible facility for all.
The Democrats and Progressives have underlined that the failure to confirm regional resources represents a concrete problem, especially in a moment of economic difficulty. They therefore asked the Municipality to start a dialogue with the Campania Region to recover the funds and guarantee the redevelopment of the plant. "It is not right that the city is treated like this. Castellammare does not deserve this", stated the party representatives. The statement also requested the Municipality to act with determination to verify any possibility of recovering the funds and guarantee the redevelopment of the plant.
The future of the Romeo Menti stadium remains uncertain. If the project were to be abandoned, Juve Stabia would risk having to play in a facility that does not comply with current regulations, with negative consequences for the safety of the fans and the reputation of the club. On the contrary, if the Municipality managed to recover regional funds and maintain the priority of the intervention, the stadium could become a model of modernization for the sporting realities of the area. In any case, Juve Stabia and the citizens of Castellammare di Stabia anxiously await a final decision from the local and regional authorities.
