Atalanta has decided to invest 35 million euros, plus bonuses, for English striker Jonathan Rowe, raising questions among fans. Although the attacker has not yet scored or provided any assists, the club believed that the market value and long-term potential justify the cost. Comparing the expense with that of Bologna, who paid around 20 million for a player who produced eight goals and five assists, Atalanta chose to double the investment in a single season, focusing on growth potential.
Rowe was bought on loan with a €30m buyout obligation and a €5m bonus, making him the most expensive signing in the club's history. The price exceeds that paid for Scamacca and Traorè, who saw investments of around 31 million each. Atalanta therefore decided not to wait, while Roma, who had shown interest in the player, did not conclude the negotiation.
According to internal sources, Gian Piero Gasperini recommended the transfer, but the Roma management did not accept the offer. Atalanta then presented a more attractive offer, sealing the deal. The club stated that the choice is motivated by the long-term vision and the desire to build a solid offensive department.
At the moment, Rowe is still adapting to Serie A and his performance is yet to be evaluated. Atalanta, with its strategy of investing in young talents, will continue to monitor the player's results in the next matches. Next week the team faces its next championship challenge, where Rowe will be able to demonstrate the value of his investment.
