Weston McKennie, Juventus midfielder, expressed his frustration after the defeat against Genoa, during an interview broadcast by DAZN. According to the player, the team failed to put the tactics used into practice and lacked energy and determination, key elements to win in Serie A.
In McKennie's story, the match against Genoa was an example of how strategy, while important, is not enough if the players are unable to fight with the right intensity. The midfielder underlined that the team was unable to react and change the course of the match, while Genoa showed good organization and a strong will to win. “We didn't come here to lose,” said McKennie, “but Genoa played well and won because they did more than us.”
The player also reiterated his role as an example on the pitch, stating that he is not a type of player who talks a lot but who prefers to demonstrate his commitment with action. “We have to fight, put more energy into it,” he declared, highlighting the importance of a fighting mentality to achieve positive results.
Regarding the next match against Napoli, McKennie acknowledged the difficulty of the match, but underlined the obligation to recover. The midfielder proposed analyzing videos of previous performances to spot mistakes and prepare the team for a home win. “We have to do it for ourselves, for the fans and for the club which needs to get back to the top,” he added, indicating the need for a more serious and concentrated approach.
With the season still ongoing, Juventus will have to address immediate challenges and work on internal cohesion. McKennie expressed his desire to get back on track and demonstrate that the team is ready to compete at the highest level, both out of loyalty to the fans and the desire to bring the team back to the level of excellence that Juventus' history deserves.
