Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic has asked fans to remain calm as the team faces Lecce on matchday six of the 2026/2027 season. In a press conference where he answered questions about his fitness, tactics and motivation, Runjaic reiterated that the current situation is not "pretty", but it is not desperate either.
Runjaic began by describing his condition: "I'm fine, but the tension is high, especially in this crucial moment." He underlined that, despite having suffered four consecutive defeats, the team is 100% focused and is preparing hard for tomorrow's match. "Everyone wants a victory; the last home victory dates back to May 2nd," he added, highlighting the importance of taking advantage of the opportunities created and turning them into goals.
As for the squad, Runjaic confirmed the presence of key players such as Zanoli and Davis, who will be able to contribute to the match. He mentioned the absence of Zaniolo, Gueye and Bayo, but reassured that Abankwah is not injured and will be available. Goalkeeper Maduka has been cited as a potential "top 5" in Serie A, with Runjaic praising his ability to maintain the balance between tension and concentration.
The coach then spoke of the importance of the crowd, defining the match as "delicate" and underlining that a fifth consecutive defeat would not improve the situation. He recalled the home performances of previous years, when Udinese had achieved more than ten victories at home, and expressed the desire to transform home games into "parties" for the fans. The Curva Nord, he said, is always at the club's side and its presence is essential to give energy to the team.
Finally, Runjaic answered questions about the transfer market and the composition of the team. He said the aim is to focus on those already in the squad, highlighting the versatility of players like Gueye and Bayo. He hinted at the possible need to add an extra striker, but reiterated that the team has 24 players, a mix of promising youngsters and veterans. The manager ended the conference with the optimism of being able to surpass the previous season, but reiterated that tomorrow's match is crucial for their bid for three points.
