The match between FCBarcelona and Atlético de Madrid, which will be played in the second round of the season, has been rescheduled for the first week of December. The decision was made after the celebration of the Spanish Super Cup in Istanbul, between February 2 and 6, which forced the matches of matchday 23 of LaLiga to be moved to earlier dates.
The LaLiga calendar, which had already been drawn, made clear the availability of the week of December 1 and 2. The four teams competing in the Super Cup – Barcelona, Atlético, Real Sociedad and Real Madrid – are exempt from the second round of the Copa del Rey, so they can play without interference in that slot.
With the new schedule, Barcelona and Atlético will face each other at the Metropolitano on November 8 and, in the first week of December, they will be seen again on Spotify CampNou. In this way, the interval between the first and second round will be just one month, which is unusual in the history of direct confrontations between both clubs.
This rearrangement is common practice when the Super Cup is held outside of Spain, but the proximity of the matches between the two greats of Spanish football will be the closest in the last decade. Fans will be able to enjoy two highly anticipated matches in a record period of time.
