Real Madrid coach José Mourinho has made it clear that Barcelona's defeat against PSG will not alter the Catalan club's confidence for the next Clásico. In the press conference prior to the match on matchday ten of LaLiga, Mourinho emphasized that his objective is to recognize the efforts of his players when they do well and not seek anything other than credit for their performances.
Mourinho recalled that Real Madrid is not a “finished product.” He noted that, after the preseason and international selections, the team has been working for a month and a half, and that it is still in an adaptation phase. “The coach is knowing and analyzing, and the players are learning his leadership style,” he explained. According to him, comparing a team at this stage with one that has been in the same structure for several years is not fair. “When performance is inferior or the result is negative, criticism is part of the process,” he added.
The Portuguese also denied that the Clásico is the definitive test of the team under his command. “Madrid with Mourinho wins titles,” he stated, emphasizing that previous history has no relevance in the preparation for the duel. "The parties are different; what happened before does not have much influence on the present," he said. Mourinho compared the situation to the 4‑1 result against Leipzig in the Champions League, indicating that a negative result would not alter his mental state or that of his players.
As for Barcelona, Mourinho commented that the defeat against PSG will not change his confidence or his mood for the match. “I don't think Barcelona will change their state of mind and confidence going into this game because they lost a game,” he concluded. With this, the Real Madrid coach reaffirms his focus on the present and the gradual construction of his team, while preparing for one of the most anticipated matches on the Spanish calendar.
