Osasuna continues to show a defensive fragility that worries its coach, Luis Miguel Ramírez. In the last three days, the Navarrese team has conceded 14 goals, a figure that shows the lack of solidity that Ramírez tried to build since his arrival. The most recent result, a 5‑2 defeat against Betis, marked the second time this season that the Rojillo has conceded five goals in a single match, and has added 17 goals in the last five rounds, the highest number in the league except for Racing Santander.
Ramírez's objective upon arriving in Pamplona was to “build a solid team from behind” so that the team could grow from defensive security. Eight days later, that premise still has not materialized. Of the 18 goals conceded, 13 came from inside the area and five from outside, reflecting the team's difficulty in keeping a clean sheet. In the eight games played, only the games against Levante and Getafe ended without goals conceded, which underlines the defensive inconsistency of the rojillo.
The coach has tried different configurations, alternating between systems with four and five defenders and changing players in the zone. The goal has also undergone changes: Sergio Herrera, starter at the beginning of the season, conceded eight goals in five games, while Aitor Fernández, introduced against Atlético de Madrid, conceded four goals and conceded another against Rayo Vallecano, adding ten goals in three days. The only goalkeeper who seems settled is Alejandro Catena; the others, such as Enzo Boyomo, Rockson Yeboah and Unai Santos, have not shown the necessary stability. Jorge Herrando, who has returned from injury, is beginning to show signs of improvement.
Compared to the previous season, when the team led by Alessio Lisci had conceded only eight goals in eight games, the difference is evident. The red defense has suffered a drop of ten goals, which poses an important challenge for Ramírez: rebuilding defensive solidity before the weakness continues to affect the team's competitiveness. The season still offers room for maneuver, but the current numbers raise alarms and demand a prompt solution so that Osasuna can compete without conceding so many chances and goals.
