Luis Enrique, PSG coach, declared in the press conference prior to the Champions League match against Manchester City that the English club “deserved all the trophies it won.” The French coach responded to questions about the infractions suffered by the English team and the investigation that is being carried out, underlining the need to wait for the final decision and not to prejudge the result.
In the context of the debate surrounding Manchester City, Luis Enrique was optimistic about the team's performance under the direction of Pep Guardiola. "What they have done on the field has been incredible. I loved their style of play," said the French coach, adding that sporting achievements "stay on the field." When asked if Guardiola's presence at the stadium could tarnish his legacy, he responded that "the trophies he won on the field stay on the field" and that any further comment would be a private conversation.
PSG also praised Manchester City's game, highlighting its offensive and defensive capacity. Luis Enrique remembered seeing Pep and Maresca's teams, and commented that "it's entertaining. They attack a lot, but they also know how to defend." Furthermore, the French coach recalled his first meeting with City goalkeeper, Gigio Donnarumma, and expressed his satisfaction at seeing that the player continues at the same level as in Paris, describing him as a “wonderful person.”
Regarding the Ballon d'Or, Luis Enrique showed some fatigue with the issue, but stated that his team has players who could deserve the award. “We can win that trophy; we have players who deserve it,” he said, recalling that PSG was voted best team last year, not only because of Ousmane Dembélé.
With the match just around the corner, PSG and Manchester City are preparing for a duel that, according to Luis Enrique, will be a high-level football spectacle. The final result and resolution of the investigation into City will await the official decision, while both teams focus on the objective of advancing in the competition.
