Lamine Yamal has consolidated his position as Barcelona's most active and creative player during the 2024-25 season, with a number of minutes that surpasses any other outfield player on the Spanish teams participating in the Champions League. According to official data, the young winger has played a combined 861 minutes between the League and European competition, barely surpassed by striker Kylian Mbappé of Real Madrid and midfielder Renato Veiga of Villarreal, who have recorded 900 minutes in domestic competition.
Yamal's minutes record is reinforced by his almost full participation in the Spanish team, where he has started all four Nations League games played to date. In contrast, the Frenchman Mbappé only managed 59 minutes in the first match of the international competition due to discomfort. Barcelona coach Hansi Flick has stated that “you have to manage Yamal's minutes”, but without interrupting his flow of play, which indicates that the player will continue in the starting lineup against teams like Betis, Paris Saint-Germain and Real Madrid.
Regarding his offensive performance, Yamal has scored nine goals and, what is more notable, he has been the top assist in the League with five passes that ended in a goal, and the leader in the Champions League with four assists. His figure of nine assists this season exceeds that of his teammates and is half of the 17 he gave the previous year. Yamal's assist count also places him among the best in the competition, with only Espanyol's Javi Hernández equaling his total in the League and no Champions League player having reached four assists.
The young player has shown his ability to create opportunities in key games, such as last Tuesday's performance at the Ali Sami Yen against Galatasaray, where his assists to Fermín López and Anthony Gordon were decisive for the result. With seven goals and 53 total contributions (goals + assists) in 161 official games for Barcelona, Yamal is approaching the figure of 57 he reached in the 2023-24 season, suggesting that he could be on his way to an individual award such as the Ballon d'Or.
As the season progresses, fans and analysts will closely monitor Yamal's performance, especially in the upcoming Champions League and Spanish League matches, where his presence on the field and his ability to generate goals will be key factors for Barcelona's success.
