Hamad bin Jassim bin Jaber AlThani, known in international circles by his initials HBJ, has returned to prominence in Italy thanks to recent financial and real estate transactions. The AlMirqab family office, which manages the sheikh's assets, has expressed interest in Oaktree acquiring a minority stake in Inter. If the deal were to materialize, it would represent an investment in a different sector than HBJ's usual one, which has focused mainly on real estate and hotel investments.
In recent months, Italy has become a strategic terrain for HBJ's activities. In 2026, AlMirqab purchased 80% of a property in via MonteNapoleone8 in Milan for around 1.1 billion euros from the French group Kering. Subsequently, through Constellation Hotels, the acquisition of VillaCertosa, the historic Sardinian residence of the Berlusconi family, was concluded for an estimated value of 350 million euros. These operations demonstrate the sheikh's interest in the Italian real estate market, but now a new chapter opens with the potential participation in the Nerazzurri club.
The possible entry of HBJ into Inter's shareholding could also have repercussions on the project of the new stadium in Milan, which is destined to influence the economic prospects of the club. “We are faced with an absurd calendar, and I'm surprised that the Football Association doesn't say anything,” declared Maurizio Sarri, Atalanta coach, after the victory over Pafos. The reply came from Umberto Calcagno, president of the Italian Footballers' Association (AIC), who underlined that the association has long denounced the overcrowding of calendars and the risk of injuries, especially for top players. Calcagno added that the AIC and SerieA could do little other than join forces in the case against FIFA, as has already happened in the past.
Meanwhile, Massimiliano Allegri commented on his Napoli away to Venezia, highlighting the need to recover the players and play every three days. When asked if he was bothered by Kevin DeBruyne's attitudes, Allegri replied that it was a simple misunderstanding, underlining that the Belgian is intelligent and understood the situation. Allegri's statements confirmed the importance of clear communication between coach and player, especially in critical moments of the match.
With HBJ's interest still being assessed and discussions ongoing between football authorities and player representatives, the situation remains in flux. If AlMirqab's proposal comes to fruition, Inter could see a new investor with a strong international presence and a diversified portfolio, while the club will have to manage the implications of a new shareholder in an already complex context of investments and infrastructure projects.
