Lazio returned to the top of the championship alone after ten games, thanks to a 2‑1 victory over Cagliari. With this result the Roman club confirms itself in first position, a goal not seen since 2010/11. The new coach, Edy Reja, commented on the situation entirely in terms of challenge and ambition.
Reja underlined that the team had to demonstrate that they could handle the pressure and overcome initial mistrust. “The context is similar to that of when we were in the lead alone: there was skepticism but we proved it wrong,” he explained. “Now Gattuso, who is the new captain, is doing even better, because he is winning almost all of them.” The new coach expressed the hope that Lazio can continue to fight for the Champions League and, if possible, go further.
The president declared that he does not want to impose limits on the team, but to aim for a "day by day" approach that allows us to seize every opportunity. “Lazio has remained in my heart and seeing it alone first fills me with joy,” he said. "If he can fight for the Champions League? I say yes and I hope he goes even further. He must continue to live day by day and without setting limits." He added that the championship is strange and that a surprise epilogue is not excluded, but in ten matchdays Lazio has shown that it can stay at the top of the table.
Regarding the match against Cagliari, Reja admitted that the team struggled at some moments. "It was very normal, in a championship there are matches like this. It was the third match in eight groups and let's not forget that Cagliari is also an excellent team. Winning matches like this is a team that is becoming more and more mature", he observed. The coach highlighted that the victory is a positive sign for the team's maturity.
With the new title in mind, Lazio is preparing to continue its run towards the summer. The Roman club will have to face the next challenges with the same determination, trying to consolidate its leading position and keep alive the hope of qualifying for European competitions. The next match, Lazio will have to demonstrate that they are able to maintain their superiority and not be distracted by the difficulties that the championship can present.
