RCD Espanyol has officially confirmed the arrival of Eder Sarabia as its new coach, following the departure of Manolo González. The decision, made by sporting director Monchi, was announced on the afternoon of September 27 and was formalized with the signing of a two-season contract that runs until June 30, 2028. Sarabia, born in Bilbao on September 27, 1980, returns to the bench after having left Elche CF last summer for personal reasons, citing the need to attend to "fundamental issues in his life."
Sarabia has a career that spans from training young people at Danok Bat and the youth ranks of Villarreal, to his time as Quique Setién's assistant at Las Palmas, Betis and Barcelona. His experience as a head coach was consolidated at FC Andorra, where he achieved promotion to the First Division in 2025, and at Elche, where he led the team during a season of permanence that ended with a draw on the last day at Montilivi, which also caused Girona to be relegated. The Bilbao coach has demonstrated his ability to manage teams in pressure situations and with clear objectives.
Espanyol's coaching staff is completed with the incorporation of Jon López, Jon Moreno, Aitor Unzué and Álvaro González. The last of the four, González is a former club player, with 82 official matches between 2014 and 2016, and now returns as part of the technical direction team. The presence of these profiles complements Sarabia's vision and reinforces the club's commitment to a solid squad with experience in Spanish football.
The club's official announcement includes a statement detailing Sarabia's career and the composition of the new technical team. The coach's official presentation has been set for Tuesday at the Juan Segura Palomares Auditorium, where accredited media will be able to meet the new leader of the first team. Espanyol hopes that the arrival of Sarabia, along with his support team, will allow the club to consolidate its position in the League and seek competitive objectives in the next season.
