Liverpool suffered a tough defeat at Anfield, losing 3‑0 to Manchester City. The result was determined by a stoppage-time goal from Erling Haaland, followed by two goals from Doku and Cherki, who consolidated their leading position in the Premier League. Liverpool's numerical inferiority, caused by the dismissal of Jurrien Gravenberch in the 62nd minute, had a decisive impact on the course of the match, with Manchester City immediately capitalizing on the situation.
He highlighted that although there were no sensational chances, Liverpool had shown they were ready to fight.
Van Dijk also commented on the atmosphere at Anfield, saying that he had been lucky enough to play many great games there and that, for him, the team had shown that they were ready to fight, especially in the first half. The interviewee avoided commenting on the Premier League Independent Commission's recent investigation into Manchester City into alleged financial breaches, saying it was "not a good idea to comment on it" until the matter was clear. He expressed his willingness to provide a definitive opinion once the matter is resolved.
With this defeat, Liverpool find themselves 10 points behind Manchester City, who continue to dominate the table.
