After the 2‑1 victory against Parma, Udinese coach Kosta Runjaic confirmed that the team proved to be the best of the day, despite having had to deal with a controversial penalty episode. In his speech, the coach underlined the importance of not losing and continuing to make small steps forward.
Runjaic expressed satisfaction with the defensive performance, calling it balanced and praising the solidity of defenders Palma, Kabasele, Abankwah and Bertola. He also recognized the importance of Zaniolo, who gave his all despite not being at his peak, and cited Davis as one of the key players. “We had some bad luck, we could have scored and we could have lost if it wasn't for that penalty against,” he said, referring to the penalty that wasn't awarded to Davis.
Regarding the Zaniolo episode, Runjaic said he could not comment definitively, as he did not see the action clearly and intends to review it. He further explained that the referee was very close and made his decision. The coach added that the choice to change Zaniolo before the end was motivated by the desire not to tire him too much.
The coach reiterated that the initial choices were made to maintain the defensive balance and not concede goals. “We have to take care of the defense and not concede too many goals,” he said. Runjaic further explained that the team wanted to play offensively against a team fighting for the same goals and playing at home, but had to deal with the unpredictability of football.
Finally, Runjaic closed the conference with a message of confidence: "We are sure that if we remain calm and continue like this we will become stronger. We must fight and believe together to take these steps forward." With the victory, Udinese is closer to the top of the group, but the coach remains focused on the work to be done to consolidate the team and continue the race towards the top of the table.
