On October 23, OM formalized the arrival of TochukwuNnadi, a 23-year-old Nigerian midfielder, after a transfer from ZulteWaregem for around six million euros. Under the leadership of MedhiBenatia, the Canebière club is seeking to strengthen its mediation and sees in Nnadi a physical and recuperative asset which could support BrunoGenesio in the quest for stability.
Nnadi, who has already been noticed by several English clubs, notably WestHam, was surprised by his choice to join Marseille rather than the PremierLeague. Nigerian coach ÉricChelle, who knows the player well, expressed his astonishment but welcomed OM's decision, considering the transfer a masterstroke. Although his qualities were recognized, no English offer was yet final at the time of signing.
Arriving at OM in February, Nnadi has not yet found his place in the squad. Competition in midfield and his adaptation to the team's style of play limited his minutes. In addition, a right knee injury, which occurred in Monaco at the end of August, interrupted his integration. The player avoided an operation and followed a muscle strengthening protocol with the Marseille medical staff. After several weeks of absence, he returned to collective training and regained his sensations during a friendly match against Montpellier.
Nnadi's return comes at a critical time for OM, whose leadership has been weakened by absences and physical uncertainties. His aggressive profile, his ability to cover long distances and recover the ball could bring additional balance to the team. Genesio sees him as an additional option to strengthen his squad, although the Nigerian still has to prove that he can play a regular role in the squad.
OM hopes that this difficult period is now behind them. With Nnadi, the club has an additional card for the coming weeks, and it is up to them to transform this opportunity into a stable place in the Marseille rotation. The team's next matches will allow us to see if the Nigerian midfielder can establish himself as a key element of Genesio's strategy.
