Two fans of the Portuguese club FCPorto were arrested after a violent episode that took place at gate 12 of the La Cartuja stadium, before the Champions League match between RealBetis and the Portuguese team. The incident occurred on Wednesday, October 14, shortly before the start of the match that culminated in a 3-2 victory for Betis.
The national police intervened when a Porto fan tried to enter the venue by bypassing the access turnstile at gate 12, which serves the visiting public. A security guard, trying to prevent entry, was followed by the fan. At that moment, another supporter of the Portuguese club pounced on the worker and threw a forceful punch at him. The blow caused the guard to lose consciousness and fall to the ground, where he fractured his jaw. According to reports, the attacker also kicked the guard while he was lying down.
After police intervention, both fans were arrested and informed that they would be brought to justice on Friday, October 16. The police have not revealed names or additional details about those arrested, but it is confirmed that both belong to the FCPorto ultras group.
The match between Betis and Porto took place without further incidents and ended with a 3‑2 victory for the home team, keeping Betis at the top of the Champions League group stage table. The incident has raised concerns about security at stadiums and the need to strengthen access control and surveillance measures during international matches. Betis and the Spanish Football Federation have expressed their willingness to collaborate with the authorities to prevent similar situations from occurring again.
