The decision was made after a thorough assessment of Celestini's abilities, who has demonstrated solid international experience and a string of successes at European clubs.
Celestini arrives at Burnley with a CV full of achievements. He has led BSC Basel since October 2023, leading the team to a national double: the Swiss championship, won for the first time in eight years, and the Swiss Cup. As a player, Celestini played for ten years in France and Spain, including Olympique Marseille, Levante and Getafe, and represented the Swiss national team in 35 appearances, taking part in the 2004 European Championships.
In his first speech, Celestini expressed enthusiasm for the challenge that awaits him at TurfMoor. He underlined the potential of the club and the quality of the squad, stating that he wanted to bring a team that plays with conviction from the first minute. “I look at Burnley and I see a club with great potential and quality players, who can help us achieve our fans' goals,” he said. DiegoLopez explained the choice of the coach, highlighting his passion, experience and determination. "Fabio brings the passion, experience and knowledge we were looking for. He has shown extraordinary determination and belief in coming to Burnley," added Lopez.
Celestini's first match will be against Portsmouth, scheduled for Saturday 31 October at 3pm. It will be his first session on the bench and an opportunity to show his tactical vision, with the aim of giving an immediate turning point to Burnley's season. The team is preparing for a decisive match, with the aim of consolidating the new direction and meeting the fans' expectations.
