Adam Masina, former defender of Bologna and the Moroccan national team, has announced the end of his playing career at just 32 years old, to dedicate himself to the technical sector of Progresso Calcio of Castel Maggiore. The decision came after a short period of speculation that saw him linked to Arezzo in SerieB, but in the end the player chose to return to Bologna, where he began his career.
Masina was born and raised in the Bologna youth team, where he had his first professional experience. After a move to Giacomense, he returned to the rossoblù where he became a key figure, contributing to their promotion to SerieA and recording 131 appearances for the team. In 2018 he moved to England, where he played for Watford, before returning to Italy with Udinese and finally Torino, with whom he ended the 2023-24 season. At international level, after representing Italy U21, Masina chose Morocco, with whom he played 28 matches, including the final of the Africa Cup of Nations, won against Senegal.
Progresso Calcio has formalized the entry of Masina into the technical staff of the new coach Francesco Salmi. The club has appointed Salmi as technical director of the first team and has brought in Masina as a technical collaborator. Other staff members include assistant coach Nicolò Scalini, goalkeeping coach Stefano Venturelli, athletic trainer Matteo Natali, assistant trainer Lorenzo Di Pasquale and physiotherapist Alberto Mazzanti.
Masina says he is excited to start working with the players again, this time from a technical perspective. His goal is to contribute to the development of the team and bring his international experience and knowledge of Italian football to Progresso. The club, which aims to consolidate its position in the SerieD, sees added value in Masina thanks to his long career and his familiarity with Italian and international football.
With the arrival of Masina, Progresso Calcio is preparing to launch a new technical project for next season. The club has already outlined a development plan for the team, with the aim of improving performance on the pitch and strengthening the youth structure. The next phase will be characterized by intensive training and the preparation of a team ready to compete with determination in the next matches.
