Genoa president Andres Blazquez said in an interview with Diretta.it that A‑Cap's management had a negative impact on the club, specifically citing the decision to reject a purchase option for Djed Spence and David DeGea's offer. According to Blazquez, Genoa held an option to buy Spence for a price of 7 million euros, but the A‑Cap management rejected the offer, claiming that the club could not afford it. “When Spence played for us he was happy here and we had the option, but the A-Cap management said, 'No, you can't afford it,'” the president explained. The manager added that, if the decision had been made in a sporting manner, the purchase would have been considered a good opportunity.
Blazquez then referred to the offer from David DeGea, received at no cost, and claimed that even in that case A‑Cap would have refused, judging him "an old-fashioned goalkeeper". The president cited other cases, such as that of Mason Greenwood, to demonstrate how decisions outside the world of football have negatively affected the value of Genoa players. “I think we lost over 70-80 million euros in player value because we had people from outside the world of football,” he said. Blazquez underlined the importance of having internal figures with specific skills to make sporting decisions, expressing his confidence in the ability to delegate and in the skills of his team.
According to Blazquez, the lack of internal control prevented the club from making decisions based on sporting criteria. “I'm not going to go and choose what color to paint the wall behind me because I have no taste, so I'm not going to go and choose a player because I don't have the skills, but we have the right people and we ask the right questions,” he said. The executive reiterated that the collaboration between him and Mr Sucu is crucial to ensuring that future decisions are made with a clear sporting vision.
The Genoa president closed the interview by reiterating the need to review the club's management structure to avoid further losses in value and to ensure that future decisions are in line with sporting needs. With these statements, Blazquez highlights the difficulties encountered by the club due to external decisions and indicates the direction he intends to take to get Genoa's management of the transfer market and resources back on track.
