A new episode of vandalism has hit the mural dedicated to Franco Baresi, located in Piazza Gino Valle in front of the Casa Milan. The painting, already the subject of acts of desecration in the past, was once again daubed with dark paint, covering key elements such as the captain's armband, the club symbol and the European Cup. The intervention took place a few days after the recent renovation of the work.
The mural was created in memory of the historic Rossoneri flag that disappeared on 31 July. Its author, the street artist Luca Rosada, known as Lucas Street Art, had already suffered an attack of vandalism at the end of September, when the mural was damaged with a red spray. At that moment the artist had decided to intervene, restoring the work and creating a new version. The renewed installation was inaugurated last October 10th.
The new version of the mural presents a portrait of Baresi larger and smiling than the previous one, inserted in the number six that accompanied the career of the legendary captain. To create the work, Rosada used the paste-up technique, applying illustrations printed on paper directly onto the wall. Despite recovery efforts, the mural was attacked again less than two weeks after its unveiling.
The second episode of vandalism, which occurred shortly after the first, raises questions about the safety of public works dedicated to the great football champions. The Milan club expressed disappointment at the act and asked the competent authorities to intensify surveillance in the area. It is currently unclear who committed the latest attack or what motivations led them to damage the mural.
With the event, the community of fans and urban art enthusiasts mobilized to ask for greater protection of public works, while the Milan club promised to collaborate with the police to avoid further acts of vandalism. The mural's future remains uncertain, but Luca Rosada's determination to preserve Baresi's memory is evident. The club and the city will have to find a permanent solution to ensure that the figure of Franco Baresi continues to inspire new generations of fans.
