Giuseppe Pancaro, former player and coach, commented on the current situation of Italian football during an interview on Maracanà, the Tuttomercatoweb radio broadcast. In his speech, the former coach expressed opinions on Napoli, Juventus and, above all, Lazio, who appear to be in top form.
Pancaro underlined that Napoli has a team capable of further improving, while Juventus, according to him, is going through a period of difficulty due to injuries and a decline in psychological safety. “I don't know which one can go back,” he added, making it clear that the team has not yet found its stability.
Regarding the rivalry between Lazio and Roma, Pancaro declared that Lazio is "beautiful" and behaves like a "steamroller". He cited the match against Sassuolo, where Lazio were two goals ahead after a quarter of an hour, highlighting the club's impressive strength. “Lazio have little pressure compared to Roma and other teams, built for a top championship,” he observed, praising the work of Gennaro Gattuso, especially for the signings of key players. "Today the team wins, convinces and is also strong in terms of personnel. Let's enjoy it and hope it lasts as long as possible."
Pancaro also compared Lazio with Inter, defining the latter as "another category" but with structural limitations which, if not resolved, could compromise its competitiveness. He considered Lazio as a possible "Leicester of Italy", underlining that the team has demonstrated that it has a strong base and is not a fluke. “After the show of strength in Sassuolo and the victory against Juve, it cannot be a coincidence,” he added.
Finally, Pancaro recalled Mancini's Lazio, stating that the team currently has an 11 point advantage over seventh place, the last place guaranteed in Europe. He concluded by declaring that Lazio is the best of the last twenty years and that the only team that can come close is Inzaghi's, built to win, but pre-Covid.
With these observations, Pancaro outlined a positive picture for Lazio, highlighting their strength, the solidity of the squad and the hope of maintaining this form for the rest of the season.
