The Arbitration Board, established by the Collective Agreement between the Italian Football Federation, the Serie A League and the Italian Footballers' Association, issued the final award in favor of the U.S. Lecce against the footballer Lameck Banda. The decision was communicated by the club on its official website and confirms that the employment relationship with Banda, according to the contractual clauses, was scheduled until 30 June 2027. The Board also noted a serious breach on the part of the player, who from 1 July 2026 did not make his work energies available nor did he resume sporting activity despite being called up.
Consequently, the Board imposed on Banda a disciplinary sanction provided for by the Collective Agreement, consisting of a fine of 256,250 euros. The provision was accompanied by a notice that the proceedings are now pending before the competent FIFA courts, with the aim of obtaining compensation for damages resulting from the termination without just cause and applying the disciplinary sanctions provided for by international regulations both to the player and to the Al-Swehly Sports Club.
Lecce underlined that the Board's decision was taken after examining the applications submitted by the club and confirming the validity of the contractual clauses. The sanctioning act aims to protect the interests of the club and ensure compliance with contractual obligations by the players. The press release did not contain any direct statements from Banda, but it is clear that his contractual position was deemed non-compliant by the Board.
The proceedings before FIFA remain ongoing and could result in further disciplinary action against Banda and Al-Swehly Sports Club. Lecce have expressed their willingness to collaborate with the relevant authorities to resolve the matter and to continue to focus on their performances on the pitch. For fans and football observers, the story highlights the importance of respecting contracts and disciplinary rules, especially at a time when the club is busy consolidating its position in Serie A.
