FCNantes have confirmed that Lamine Diack is not one of coach Grégory Poirier's options for the match on the 11th day of Ligue2 against Clermont, scheduled for this Friday at 8 p.m. The Senegalese midfielder, who has only played one minute in the Canaries jersey since his arrival in July 2023, therefore remains on the sidelines of the squad.
Diack, who arrived in Nantes as one of the first recruits of the Baptiste Drouet era, experienced three successive loans: ColoradoRapids, Hatayspor and FCSion. On his return, he failed to reintegrate into the group and his future at the Beaujoire stadium remains uncertain. Poirier was explicit about the player's situation, emphasizing that good relations between player and coach do not guarantee a place on the team. “He works, he is respectful,” said Poirier, but clarified that “as long as he is professional, there is no problem”, while “he is not a player on whom we count on in the current state”.
Competition in midfield is the main obstacle to Diack's integration. Poirier indicated that he has many options in this area and that, barring any changes in injury or fitness, space for the Senegalese remains limited. “I have a lot of backgrounds. If there is no development in terms of injury or fitness, for the moment, it’s complicated for him,” he admitted. The coach insisted on the fact that “we make sure that the best play,” which explains his choice not to include Diack in the locker room for the upcoming match.
For Lamine Diack, the priority is to continue working hard and stay ready to seize a possible opportunity. However, as long as the midfield hierarchy does not change, a return to the FCNantes professional group seems difficult in the short term. The club will therefore have to decide on a new direction for the player, either by a loan or by a release, in order to allow Diack to find regular minutes of play elsewhere.
