Inter once again topped the Serie A table after beating last-place Venezia with a score of 2‑0, thanks to two own goals scored by the Venetian team in the final minutes of the match. The match, played on October 28 at the Pier Luigi Penzo Stadium, consolidated Inter's position in first place, overtaking Lazio, which had won 6‑2 against Sassuolo the previous day.
The match began with a fairly compact Inter team in attack. Despite creating some opportunities, Roberto De Zerbi's team failed to score a goal, while Venezia showed more dynamism and created several clear chances. In the first half, forward Akor Adams tested goalkeeper Ivan Provedel with a shot that went under the net. Shortly after, Venezia scored a goal that was annulled by the VAR for offside, after a play that involved Kike Pérez's free kick.
The second half was decisive. In the 79th minute, striker Matías Moreno of Venezia, while trying to avoid a shot, deflected the ball with his head and Filip Stankovic, brother of the Inter goalkeeper, put it into his own goal, scoring the first goal of the game. Just three minutes later, striker Halhal, after a corner from Çalhanoglu, deflected the ball with his chest and the ball ended up in Inter's own goal, sealing the 2‑0 victory.
Inter, without forward Lautaro Martínez who is injured, had the presence of players like Bisseck, Barella and Çalhanoglu, while coach Cristian Chivu chose to include Aleksandar Stankovic in his debut as a starter. The Italian team also showed sterile dominance on the field, with few clear opportunities, but remained firm defensively.
With this victory, Inter regains the lead in Serie A, with more goals scored than Lazio, and prepares for the next derby on Saturday against Milan. Venezia, for its part, remains in last position in the table, with only one draw in the eight games played. The result leaves Inter with a three-point lead over second place, while Venezia continues to fight to avoid relegation.
