French midfielder Manga Foe-Ondoa, 18 years old and of Cameroonian descent, has gone from being an unknown player in Portugal to becoming one of the revelations of SerieA with Monza. His arrival in SerieA and his quick adaptation at the SanSiro have put his name on the list of Italian clubs that are attentive to his potential, including Roma, according to the French Federation.
Foe-Ondoa began his career in the youth ranks of Valenciennes, where he played 21 games in the 2023-24 season, scoring four goals and providing two assists, accumulating more than 1,200 minutes in the league and cup. Despite his performance, he failed to attract the attention of the big clubs and was signed by Portugal's Estoril as a development project. The first year at the club was demanding, with training in the morning with the first team and sessions in the afternoon with the under-23 team, but the player demonstrated adaptability and personality, learning Portuguese quickly and gaining confidence.
The loan to Oliveirense, although in a modest club that was relegated from the second to the third division, was decisive for its growth. Foe-Ondoa played the majority of the minutes, occupied different positions in the midfield and began to define his style of play as a traveling midfielder. In Monza, the Italian club signed him after more than two months of negotiations, with an agreement that could exceed 1.5 million euros in variables, and offered him a four-season contract.
His debut at the SanSiro against Inter was a declaration of intent. In a highly demanding environment, he showed energy, power and a capacity for recovery that caught the attention of IvanJuric, Monza's coach. Since then, he has been increasingly important in the eleven, alternating between a box-to-box role and a position closer to the rear, with the ability to initiate plays from the base and reach the rival area when necessary. In the match against Sassuolo, his introduction after the break helped stabilize the team and maintain defensive balance, while in the match with Cagliari he recorded five recoveries, 12 kilometers covered and 86% accuracy in his passes.
Foe‑Ondoa's profile is reminiscent of the legendary ClaudeMakelele for his recovery ability, aggressiveness in duels and his dominant physique, although it is not a direct comparison. The young Frenchman has the potential to become a modern pivot, capable of defending forward, winning duels and distributing the ball efficiently, although he still needs to improve his passing range and decision-making in pressure situations.
The growing attention from Roma and the appreciation of his performance in SerieA indicate that Foe-Ondoa is being targeted by top-level clubs. His evolution at Monza and his ability to influence all phases of the game position him as a revelation that no longer goes unnoticed in Italian and European football. With the next stretch of the season underway, the young midfielder will continue to demonstrate his value and establish himself as a key player for the future of Monza and, potentially, for the French team.
