Real Sociedad has consolidated JonMartín and MamadouSarr as the starting centre-back duo who, after five consecutive games, have shown increasingly solid and coherent performance. The American coach Matarazzo, taking advantage of the injuries of IgorZubeldía and defenders Beitia and Aramburu, has opted for the continuity of the couple so that they get to know each other better and integrate into the project for the 26-27 season. Since their first joint appearance, the defense has shown notable improvement, reducing the number of goals conceded and winning games with greater confidence.
The context of the season has been favorable for the development of Martín and Sarr. Both arrived at the team in the summer window without having played much in the preseason, which forced them to adapt quickly. Sarr, 21, has shown the physical power and resilience that justify Chelsea's investment and Bretos' decision not to sell him. Matarazzo has given him the freedom to step out of his zone and put pressure on opponents, resulting in increasingly ruthless ground duels and a dominant presence in the box. For his part, Martín has returned to his usual position at right back, regaining confidence and contributing with his experience on the field.
The joint performance has been reflected in the table: Real has won three games and tied two with the duo in the midfield, while the defense has conceded fewer goals than in the previous phase. The positive results are not the result of chance, but rather a combination of teamwork and individual improvement of both players. The pair have remained undefeated in their joint matches, reinforcing the coach's confidence in their ability to meet the challenges of the league.
The next match, the SanMamés derby, represents an important challenge for the defense. Sarr faces his first game in the stadium, while Martín, with seven games in the season, has only lost the one he watched from the bench. Real Sociedad seeks to continue its positive streak and take advantage of the defensive solidity that the duo has provided so far. With confidence in their performance and guaranteed continuity, both players are prepared to face the demands of the derby and continue contributing to the team's success in the season.
