Getafe have formally submitted an offer to sign former Manchester United winger Jadon San Sancho, who is currently a free agent after his contract with the club ended last summer. The 26‑year‑old, who was bought by United for £73 million in 2021, has been evaluating several options and is reportedly open to leaving England, but the Spanish side is eager to secure his services as they seek to strengthen their squad for the remainder of the season.
The Spanish club, which sits 14th in La Liga and is competing in the Europa Conference League, said the negotiation is complex but that they are determined to reach an agreement. San Sancho’s most recent competitive appearance came during his loan spell at Aston Villa, where he scored a solitary goal in a Europa League match against Fenerbahce last season. He played 39 times for Villa, helping the club qualify for the Champions League and reach the Europa League final, a milestone that marked his third European final in three seasons.
San Sancho’s move to Chelsea for the 2024‑25 campaign included an obligation to buy, but the English club paid a £5 million penalty to return him to Old Trafford after he had made 41 appearances. During his five years at United, he also spent time on loan at Borussia Dortmund and Chelsea, before his loan at Aston Villa. The winger has been active on social media, sharing training videos and updates as he continues his search for a new club.
Earlier this week Getafe also signed former Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal on a free transfer, extending his contract until June 2027. The 34‑year‑old right‑back, who won 27 trophies with Madrid, including six Champions League titles, joined the Spanish side after his contract at the Bernabéu expired in June. Carvajal’s arrival underscores Getafe’s ambition to bolster its squad depth ahead of the final stages of the league and European competitions.
If the deal goes through, San Sancho would join a Getafe side looking to climb the table and make a significant impact in European play. The club’s management has expressed confidence that the winger’s pace, creativity and experience could add a new dimension to their attack. The next step will be the finalization of personal terms and medicals, after which San Sancho would be ready to contribute to Getafe’s campaign in both domestic and continental fixtures.
